Level of expertise

The assessment requires a sufficient working knowledge of the most common work in the relevant practice area. This level of expertise is defined as:

The ability to undertake the range of work that would reasonably be regarded as routinely falling within the responsibility of a solicitor in a particular practice area and to do so, without supervision, proficiently, effectively, efficiently and ethically.

You will need to demonstrate this level of expertise across a number of elements of expertise.

The elements of expertise are

  • Technical knowledge and skill in the practice area.
  • Client-focused knowledge and skills.
  • Practice management.
  • Knowledge of the subject of the practice area.
  • Ethical standards
