Introduction

These pages will provide all the information you need to know about becoming a Signet Accredited lawyer.

There are 4 steps you need to follow:

1 Eligibility
You must be a solicitor holding a practising certificate free from conditions from the Law Society of Scotland, or be engaged as a solicitor in terms of section 24 of the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980 (as amended).

There are no minimum or maximum PQ requirements, however most lawyers will apply for assessment at the 3-6 years PQE stage.

2 Practice Area
You need to decide in which practice area you want to be assessed. See Practice areas for the current areas available.

3. Documents
You need to read:
The Regulations
The Level and elements of expertise pages of this website
The How to prepare pages of this website
The Practice Area Assessment Guidelines for your chosen practice area
The Information for candidates document for your chosen practice area

4. Application form and References
You then need to complete an application form and send that to us with your cheque. At the same time you need to arrange for two referees to complete and return the referee report . The cost of the assessment is 250 plus 150 accreditation fee (subject to VAT).

If at any stage you have any questions then please contact us.
